FREQUENT GAME QUESTIONS and RULES
Our games are played at fields located at Adrian Elementary School. Adrian West is the field closest to the playground. Adrian East is the field in the opposite corner. The games are played Monday thru Friday nights and begin at 6:30 P.M. A team normally plays two games a week. The games are 6 innings or less and are played to a 2 hour time limit. All players bat in the same rotation throughout the game and no team is allowed to bat through its order more than once in an inning. For example, if team A has 11 players and all have batted in an inning and there are only 2 outs, the inning must end. Scores are not kept in our league, nor are standings maintained.
We encourage managers to teach youths the fundamentals of different positions and have a league rule that restricts playing time in an infield position to 3 innings in any one game. This prevents managers from taking an extremely skilled player and keeping him in a critical infield position, i.e., shortstop for the entire game. A team can play a maximum of 11 players in the field. A maximum of 6 infielders including a pitcher and catcher are allowed.
The pitching distance should be no less than 30 feet from home plate. The manager of the team batting does the pitching. Bases are 60 feet apart. A double safety first base is used. The orange portion is positioned in foul territory, and is to be used by the base runner only.
Postponing Games
In the event of rain, the respective managers of the teams scheduled to play make the determination as to whether a game is postponed. Often times the condition of the field or weather conditions make it impractical for managers to decide whether to play or cancel the game until the teams arrive for the game. Depending on the work schedule of the managers, it is usually not practical for managers to make postponement decisions until game time. Therefore, we ask that parents of players take this into consideration during periods of inclement weather or questionable playing conditions. Play should be stopped immediately if lightning is visible.
The goals of the league are to provide instruction to players to enable them to understand the rules of the games, and to provide instruction in fundamental skills to develop players for the next level of play. Parents are also asked to provide support and encouragement to players on both teams. We wish all players and parents a happy and enjoyable baseball season.
